News: 1 killed, 3 hurt in Maricopa Co. semi crash on I-10

MARICOPA CO., AZ – One person died, and three people went to the hospital after a crash involving a van and a semi-truck on I-10 near Tonopah Thursday, reports Fox 10 Phoenix.

Police say the incident happened just before 3 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-10 near Hassayampa River and mile marker 99.

The investigation suggests that an eastbound 18-wheeler rear-ended an eastbound van hauling a trailer, at which point both drivers lost control. The semi-truck overturned and landed on the van in the median of the interstate.

One person from the van died, and three others were transported to the hospital.

Neither of the two occupants in the 18-wheeler sustained injuries.

A full investigation is underway as authorities seek to understand the cause of the collision.
