News: Car strikes, kills child at 27th Ave. and Pierson St.

PHOENIX, AZ – An elementary school student died, and his father went to the hospital after a vehicle struck them Thursday morning at a Phoenix intersection, reports KOLD News 13.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. near the intersection of North 27th Avenue and West Pierson Street, which is just west of I-17.

Police say a man was walking his son to Granada West Elementary School when an SUV struck them as they crossed the road.

Medics transported both the child and his father to the hospital. The child died from his injuries after transport.

The driver of the SUV cooperated with police at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
