News: Authorities arrest man for fatal crash on US 60 near Miami-Globe

MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ – According to AZ Family, authorities arrested a man for causing a deadly crash on US 60 near mile marker 240 on May 30.

Joel Patrick Williamson Izzett, 41, was driving east on US 60 when he strayed into the westbound lanes and hit a car occupied by Dough and Rhonda Burton around 3:330 p.m.

Rescue crews pronounced Rhonda dead at the scene and transported Doug and Izzett to an area hospital.

Troopers believe impairment played a role in the incident. They smelled alcohol and found beer bottles in Izzett’s vehicle. Izzett informed troopers he smoked meth the previous day.

Authorities arrested Izzett when he was released from the hospital on June 1. They charged him with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, criminal damage, and endangerment.
