News: Woman charged in crash that killed Wisconsin man near West Phoenix

NEAR WEST PHOENIX, AZ – A 23-year-old woman is being charged with second-degree homicide in connection to a crash that killed a man from Wisconsin on Sunday.

The woman, identified as Andie Stehley, was also charged with endangerment and criminal damage, according to Arizona Family

The Back Story

The incident unfolded around noon. Stehley was driving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 10 when she changed lanes and crashed into a Toyota Highlander, driven by Michael Byington, from Wisconsin.

The impact of the crash caused the Toyota to plow into a Scion SUV, which spun out of control and then struck a sign pole. Byington was trapped inside the Toyota, requiring extrication from fire crews.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free Byington, who they pronounced dead at the scene.

Byington’s female passenger survived and was left with serious injuries.

Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed no injuries for the Scion occupants or for Stehley.

DPS believes Stehley was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and arrested and booked her into the Maricopa County Jail.
