GILBERT, AZ – A driver struck and killed a person who was standing outside their vehicle following a wreck on Loop 202 Santan WB near GIlbert Rd on Friday, according to AZFamily.
A driver lost control of their vehicle and slammed into the barrier wall on Loop 202 Santan around 10:30 p.m. The crash blocked multiple traffic lanes.
The car’s three occupants exited the vehicle and were standing outside when another driver hit their car and two of the three people standing on the freeway. The crash caused the second vehicle to ignite.
First responders pronounced one of the pedestrians dead at the scene. Officials have not provided details on the other two victims’ conditions. The second driver was not hurt in the crash.
Following the collision, crews shut down the area to process the scene. The area reopened around 7 a.m.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
