PHOENIX, AZ – According to an update from Fox10Phoenix, it was a 21-year-old woman who was killed in a wrong-way crash that happened on Loop 202 Red Mountain.
The crash occurred around midnight Tuesday. It began when a 44-year-old adult driving a Subaru was traveling east on westbound Loop 202 and sideswiped a Hyundai. The initial force of this crash pushed the Hyundai forward and caused it to crash head-on into a Kia passenger vehicle.
The impact of the multi-vehicle crash caused the Subaru to overturn and the Kia to slam into a concrete wall. The Kia driver, the 21-year-old woman, died from her injuries at the scene. She has since been identified as Emma Huckleberry from Waddell.
The Subaru driver, a 44-year-old adult, was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Hyundai driver fled the scene and has not been found.
The Arizona Department of Transportation launched an investigation. At this time, they suspect impairment was a contributing factor in what led to the crash.
Authorities shut down the westbound Loop 202 and Center Parkway connector and have reopened all lanes since.
