YAVAPAI COUNTY, AZ – The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal four-vehicle collision that occurred on US 93 near mile marker 179 on Thursday, according to ABC 15.
James Stephen Nowak was driving a box truck north on US 93 when he strayed into the southbound lanes and struck a commercial vehicle and a moving truck. Another commercial vehicle then collided head-on with the box truck.
The crash caused the box truck and another vehicle to catch on fire. The fire spread to nearby brush before being extinguished.
Rescue crews pronounced Nowak dead at the scene and transported two other drivers to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews closed down US 93 from I-40 to Wickensburg to clear the scene and investigate the collision.
