News: Reward increased to help solve Buckeye hit-and-run that killed teenager

BUCKEYE, AZ – Buckeye police said the reward has been raised for information leading to an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred over six years ago.

A Facebook post by the Buckeye Police Department stated that the Silent Witness reward was increased to $50,000, thanks to a significant donation from the victim’s family and additional funds from the department.

The case dates back to May 22, 2020, when a 16-year-old girl was hit by a car and found dead along Interstate 10 near Watson Road.  The girl had been reported missing in Mesa and was listed as a runaway in December 2019.

Detectives gathered and analyzed car parts found at the scene to determine the unknown suspect was likely driving a 2016 to 2018 Honda Civic LX or LE with factory color “midnight burgundy pearl.”

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call Silent Witness at (480) W-I-T-N-E-S-S, or (480) T-E-S-T-I-G-O for Spanish.
