News: Rideshare vehicle hits police car killing 1 on I-10

GUADALUPE, AZ – A female passenger died, and two others were injured when a vehicle hit a police car at the scene of an earlier accident in Guadalupe, reports Arizona’s Family 3TV.

Police say the incident happened just after 12:25 a.m. on Sunday on I-10 in Guadalupe, which is just southeast of Phoenix.

The investigation indicates that a police officer had parked across two lanes on the interstate at the scene of a car on fire. The officer stood outside of his vehicle with three people from the car and a firefighter. A rideshare car struck the police officer’s vehicle, causing it to collide with the firefighter’s vehicle. The rideshare vehicle then struck the officer and two other people at the scene.

Medics transported the officer, a passenger from the rideshare vehicle, and an occupant from the car on fire to the hospital. The passenger from the rideshare vehicle died after transport.

The police officer is expected to make a full recovery.

A full investigation is underway.
