News: Police find hit-and-run driver that hit, seriously injured juvenile

MESA, AZ – Police located and arrested the hit-and-run driver that hit and seriously injured a 4-year-old girl on Sunday afternoon.

This is an update to a previous post.

According to AZ Family, 48-year-old Veronica Lapranda struck the 4-year-old girl who was crossing the street at E. Main St. and S. Lesueur around 4 p.m. It was previously reported the accident happened at E. Main St. and N. Mesa Dr.

Lapranda fled the crash scene. Local authorities were able to track her down with witness statements and video footage.

It was previously reported the child died, but news reports have been corrected to report she is alive but in critical condition with serious injuries.

Lapranda is charged with a felony count of failing to remain on the scene of a serious injury crash.

It is unclear what caused her to hit the child.
