News: Man in custody after pursuit-turned-crash in Mesa 

MESA, AZ – A male suspect is in custody following a pursuit-turned-crash that injured a Mesa police officer on Monday, Fox10Phoenix.

The incident started around 2 p.m. in the area of Dobson Road and U.S. 60, where a man had hunched over his steering wheel. Police received a call about this man, later identified as 24-year-old Benny Rodriguez, who left prior to their arrival.

Police located Rodriguez in the area of Dobson Road and University Drive and tried to pull him over. He failed to stop and fled the scene, driving at a high rate of speed.

Police initiated a pursuit, which ended when Rodriguez crashed his vehicle into several other vehicles and a police cruiser on 24th Street.

The police officer inside the aforementioned police car and Rodriguez sustained minor injuries. EMS crews transported them to a hospital for treatment.

As of this writing, Rodriguez is being accused of DUI and Unlawful Flight From Pursuing Law Enforcement Vehicle, which is considered a felony.

Rodriguez may face additional charges depending on the results of the investigation.
