PHOENIX, AZ – On Wednesday, Oct. 29, Phoenix City Council members approved a $5.2 million settlement for a family whose child was injured in a crash caused by a Phoenix police officer.
Fox10Phoenix said the vote was unanimous. The collision occurred on June 7, 2023, at the intersection of South 11th Avenue and West Buckeye Road. Preliminary details show that a Phoenix police officer who was driving a patrol cruiser was driving past the speed limit without any emergency lights or sirens.
A girl was on the street, waving her hands to try to warn the officer about a toddler who was in the middle of the street. The officer then struck that child, who was left with permanent life-threatening injuries.
The police officer who was driving had another officer with them inside the patrol SUV. No charges were reported. Phoenix police did not say if the officer who was driving is still on the police force.
