News: Alleged DUI driver arrested after fatal pedestrian crash in Phoenix 

PHOENIX, AZ – A female driver, who was suspected of DUI, was arrested after causing a fatal pedestrian crash that happened Monday, Fox10Phoenix reports.

The driver, later identified as 45-year-old Deanna Shugart, was operating a minivan when she struck the pedestrian crossing the intersection of 27th Avenue and Camelback Road. The collision occurred around 2:15 a.m., and the pedestrian was rushed to a hospital.

The pedestrian died from her injuries on Tuesday and has since been identified as 24-year-old Bilgee Elamin.

Officers confirmed that the driver was “processed for DUI and booked for narcotics violations.”

The collision is under investigation.
