News: Alleged drunk driver causes crash involving Phoenix PD officer

PHOENIX, AZ – An alleged drunk driver was responsible for a crash involving a Phoenix Police officer on Friday, Arizona Family reports.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on 67th Avenue and McDowell Road. A police spokesperson said one officer was assisting to redirect traffic as a result of an earlier crash when they were struck by a vehicle driven by the suspected impaired driver.

Officials confirmed the police officer was inside their cruiser, with activated emergency lights, when they were struck by the vehicle driven by the alleged drunk driver.

EMS crews transported the officer to a hospital out of precaution. Authorities said they were not seriously injured, but did not specify their current physical condition.

Police took the causing driver into custody, noting they exhibited signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The source indicated there was a damaged red SUV and grill, but did not say if that was the vehicle operated by the alleged impaired driver.
