News: 3 critically hurt in West Phoenix crash caused by alleged impaired driver

WEST PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix police suspect impairment was a contributing factor behind a head-on crash that left three people in critical condition.

The crash occurred before 3 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of 79th Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to AOL. A person driving a truck was going west on Van Buren when they veered into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into an eastbound sedan.

One person, a woman, was pinned or entrapped inside her vehicle and required extrication from Phoenix fire crews.

Once the extrication was completed, EMS crews transported the woman and two men to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

Police did not specify which driver was allegedly impaired and are working to determine the events leading to the head-on crash.
