News: 1 hurt, 1 charged when car lands in Phoenix’s Salt River

PHOENIX, AZ – One man was hospitalized, and another arrested Tuesday night after a police chase ended with a car driving into the Salt River in Phoenix, reports Fox 10 Phoenix.

The incident happened sometime before 9 p.m. near I-10 and East University Drive.

The investigation thus far indicates that two men in a stolen vehicle fled from Tempe Police in the area of 40th Street and University Drive. Police discontinued the chase, but the vehicle continued speeding and ultimately left I-10 to drive down an embankment and into the Salt River.

Emergency crews rescued the driver, a man in his 20s, and transported him to the hospital with rib pain.

Police arrested a passenger in the car. That individual also sustained minor injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
