News: Speeding leads to fatal two-car crash in downtown Phoenix

DOWNTOWN PHOENIX, AZ – A male driver was suspected of speeding while driving his car, which led to a fatal two-car crash in downtown Phoenix Saturday.

The speedy driver had collided with another vehicle around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of North 18th Drive & West Van Buren Street, according to KTAR. EMS crews hurried the driver to a hospital where he later died. He has since been identified as 25-year-old Roberto Olivas.

Police confirmed that the driver of the second vehicle was a teenager with several passengers. Officers said the teen driver and their occupants fled the scene on foot prior to first responders arriving.

Police were able to track down the teen driver, who later admitted to driving the vehicle. The young driver did not exhibit any signs of impairment, police added.

No citations or charges have been announced at this time.
