PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix police arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian near Winona Park on Friday.
According to an update from Fox10Phoenix, the suspect was identified as 24-year-old Michelle Guzman-Garcia, and the pedestrian as 32-year-old Miguel Alteres.
Alteres was struck by Guzman-Garcia’s gray-colored Jeep as he was crossing the intersection of 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.
Guzman-Garcia had reportedly exited her Jeep momentarily, got back into her vehicle, and driven off without rendering aid to Alteres or calling 911.
Fire crews arrived at the scene after 5:30 a.m. and declared Alteres dead at the scene.
Guzman-Garcia was initially said to have been a woman in her 40s, but was later confirmed to be in her 20s.
Authorities shut down the area for several hours before later reopening it.
