GLENDALE, AZ – A male pickup truck driver was sent to the hospital after he reportedly ran a stop sign while going south on 71st Avenue North and crashed into a Shamrock Foods delivery truck on Tuesday.
Fox10Phoenix said the collision happened at the intersection of 71st Avenue and Camelback Road. Local police arrived at the scene around 2 a.m. and found that the man’s red pickup truck was lodged underneath the delivery truck.
Fire crews extricated the pickup truck driver and rushed him to the emergency room for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Police closed the area for the overall scene clean-up process and investigation.
Police are working to determine whether the stop sign runner was impaired while operating his vehicle.
A neighbor, who spoke to the source, said motor vehicle crashes in this area are all too common, and noted one crash in particular that led to fence damage. The neighbor believes that more stop signs or at least a traffic light could help reduce the number of accidents.
At this time, the City of Glendale has not confirmed any future traffic light or stop sign installation projects in this area.
