PHOENIX, AZ – A 67-year-old man died Thursday evening after a hit-and-run collision in downtown Phoenix involving five vehicles, according to Arizona’s Family.
The incident occurred in the area of 19th Avenue and Linden Street, north of Roosevelt Street. Phoenix police were dispatched to the area shortly after 5:30 p.m.
While an investigation remains in progress, preliminary details show an unknown driver in a gray vehicle hit another car that was being driven southbound on 19th Avenue by a 17-year-old. The second vehicle then collided with another vehicle, which in turn struck an unoccupied car that was parked along 19th Avenue.
Officials say the 67-year-old man, who was a passenger in the second vehicle, suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Two other adults and two children who sustained non-life-threatening injuries were transported to a local hospital.
Following the series of crashes, the causing driver fled the scene. The public is asked to come forward with any information about the hit-and-run suspect or their vehicle, which is believed to have front-end damage.
