News: 2 killed in Mesa multi-vehicle wreck after driver runs red light

MESA, AZ – Two people died late Friday morning as a result of a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 60 in southwest Mesa, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.

The accident happened on the Country Club Drive exit ramp shortly after 7:30 a.m.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say that the victims were inside a red car that was stopped at a red light on the ramp. At one point, a driver in a white pickup truck ran the red light and struck the back of the car, sending it into a nearby SUV, which was also stopped at the light.

Two occupants of the red car were pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed DPS. It was not immediately clear whether anyone else was inside the vehicle at the time.

First responders had the drivers of the pickup and the SUV sent to an area hospital.

An investigation remains ongoing, but the driver of the pickup truck is suspected of impairment.
