News: Officials ID woman who died following crash near Thunderbird Village

PHOENIX, AZ – Officials have released the name of the woman who died after colliding with a patrol vehicle near 35th Ave and Thunderbird Rd on Dec. 21, according to 12 News.

Ashley Vailes, 19, was heading east on Thunderbird Rd when she ran a red light and collided with an officer transporting a prisoner making a left turn onto 35th Ave around 9 a.m.

The crash sent Vailes’ vehicle crashing into a pole. The vehicle then caught on fire.

Rescue crews put out the fire and pronounced Vailes dead at the scene. As a precaution, they transported the officer and their prisoner to an area hospital.

The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the incident.
