News: Man, teen lose lives to fiery collision in Avondale

AVONDALE, AZ – An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old male teenager lost their lives to a pursuit-turned-fiery collision that happened in Avondale Sunday.

Phoenix police told Fox10Phoenix  that they attempted to pull over the 18-year-old male driver for driving dangerously near the intersection of 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road. The 18-year-old refused to stop, prompting a pursuit that started after 1:30 a.m.

The 18-year-old man lost control of his car while driving in the area of Dysart Road and Buckeye Road, causing him to veer off the road and crash into the Dodge City Market. The car caught on fire.

Firefighters hurried to the scene and extinguished the flames. It’s unclear if both males escaped the fiery vehicle themselves or if they were rescued by fire crews. Regardless, they got out, and EMS crews rushed the 18-year-old and his male passenger, the 16-year-old, to a nearby hospital, where they later died.

The 18-year-old man was identified as Sergio Lara-Garcia.
