News: Hit-and-run driver fatally collides with pedestrian near Bell Park

PHOENIX, AZ – A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian near N 28th St and E Grandview Rd on Sunday, according to AZFamily.

Alberto Chilil Santos, 27, was allegedly heading east on E Grandview Rd when he strayed into oncoming traffic and drove onto the sidewalk, where he hit Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez, 81, around 6 a.m.

Rescue crews pronounced Jimenez dead at the scene.

Authorities discovered a broken piece from a Chevrolet Colorado near the crash site. They located the same model car with front-end damage that belonged to Santos at a nearby apartment complex.

Santos told authorities he drunk five to six beers between 11 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. He admitted he drove off after the crash because he did not know he hit someone.

Police gave Santos a breathalyzer test, which showed his BAC was 0.034. A blood test may prove his BAC was over .08 at the time of the crash.

Authorities arrested Santos and charged him with manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision.
