News: Driver detained following fiery crash at Phoenix Int. Airport

TEMPE, AZ – A driver was detained following a fiery crash at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Sunday.

Maricopa County deputies first told ABC 15 that they first noticed the driver speeding at a rate of 120 mph in the area of Loop 202 and Priest Drive. Moments later, the driver crashed their car at Terminal 3 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The car overturned several times and caught on fire.

Deputies said they initially chased after the driver, but called off the pursuit when they went towards the airport. A deputy did what he could to put out the fire and render aid to the people inside.

The driver of the vehicle, Ivan Correa, had reportedly run away from the scene of the crash while still in handcuffs, and another passenger had also run away.

Deputies had detained Correa and the two passengers. Correa and another passenger were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Correa is currently being investigated for DUI.
