News: Driver crashes into assisted living center, kills elderly woman in Gilbert

GILBERT, AZ – A driver slammed into an assisted living facility and killed an elderly woman near E Guadalupe Rd and Lindsay Rd on Friday, according to 12 News.

Joshua Degolier, 33, plowed into the building around 9:55 p.m. Degolier then allegedly fled the scene. Police located Degolier and arrested him. Degolier reportedly displayed signs of impairment.

Mary Haapala, 88, was killed in the crash.

Authorities charged Degolier with failing to render aid to a person involved in a collision, second-degree murder, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving death or serious injury.
