News: Driver arrested after fatally striking bicyclist in Buckeye

BUCKEYE, AZ – A man was taken into custody after he hit a bicyclist and fled the scene in Buckeye on Saturday.

According to 12 News, 60-year-old George Cooper was hit by a pickup truck while riding on Jackrabbit Trail near the intersection with Beloat Road. He was subsequently dragged for some distance before being run over by the truck.

Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup attempted to flee but was located about 10 miles away and taken into custody. He is currently facing manslaughter and hit-and-run charges.
