News: Critical injuries reported when car goes over cliff in Tortilla Flat 

TORTILLA FLAT, AZ – Two people were critically injured after their car went over a cliff and crashed on Wednesday, Fox10Phoenix reports.

The single-vehicle crash happened near Apache Trail and mile marker 219. Fire crews said two people were inside a vehicle, over 350 feet below the cliff, and one other individual was located 40 feet below a steep-angle slope.

The person who was found 40 feet below was rescued by Mesa Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team, Central Arizona Search & Rescue, and Superstition Fire TRT. Crews used the Stokes Basket Rescue Method and rope to extricate them, and the two people inside the vehicle were rescued by means of a hoist operation.

The two people inside the car were airlifted to a hospital for treatment of their critical injuries.

The other person’s current physical condition has not been disclosed.

The exact cause of the collision was not reported.
