MESA, AZ – An alleged impaired driver was involved in a fatal crash that killed a woman on Wednesday, Arizona Family reports.
The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. on U.S. 60 East near Higley Road. Preliminary details show that occupants of two vehicles stopped on the shoulder to change a flat tire.
The aforementioned individuals were struck by another vehicle, operated by the suspected impaired driver, as they were getting ready to leave.
The impact of the crash led to the death of a woman and injured six others — the driver, who was reportedly under the influence, and occupants from the two stopped vehicles.
The impact also significantly damaged a black SUV.
Authorities shut down the highway’s eastbound lanes, along with the eastbound lane connecting to Higley, for several hours before reopening the area before 7 a.m.
Updates, including the victim’s name, will be added once we learn more.
