News: 2-vehicle crash involving semi kills 4 near Sedona

YAVAPAI CO., AZ – Four people died near the interstate in eastern Yavapai County on Sunday afternoon when an 18-wheeler collided with a car before igniting, reports Arizona’s Family 3TV.

Police say the incident happened around 2:15 p.m. near the junction of I-17 and AZ-179 to Sedona.

The investigation thus far indicates that a southbound tractor-trailer experienced brake failure on the interstate, at which point the driver attempted to exit at AZ-179. Unable to stop, the semi-truck hit a stop sign and collided with a northbound car. Both the semi-truck and the car then fell down and embankment, at which point the truck landed on the car before catching fire.

The four occupants of the car died at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet released their names.

The truck driver did not sustain injuries in the wreck.

A full investigation of the incident is underway.
