News: 2 killed in 4-vehicle wrong-way crash on I-17

NEW RIVER, AZ – Two people died Monday, and four people went to the hospital after a wrong-way crash involving four cars on I-17 in New River, reports Fox 10 Phoenix.

Police say the incident happened just before 4 a.m. on the northbound side of I-17 near mile marker 236.

The investigation indicates that a car traveling southbound collided with three northbound vehicles on the interstate. Emergency crews worked to extricate three people who were entrapped in their vehicles.

Medics transported the driver of the wrong-way vehicle to the hospital after finding them unconscious.

Two people died at the scene of the crash. Authorities have not yet released their identity.

A passenger from one of the vehicles went to the hospital with critical injuries.

Two drivers went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A full investigation of the incident is underway.
