News: 1 killed after crash caused by driver who ran red light in Glendale

GLENDALE, AZ – A female driver was suspected of running a red light, which led to a fatal chain-reaction crash on Monday, AZ Family reports.

The collision took place around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of North 59th Avenue and West Peoria Avenue. The alleged red light runner was going west on Peoria Avenue when she crashed into a southbound vehicle on 59th Avenue. Moments later, two other vehicles were struck, and the male driver from the southbound vehicle died from his injuries.

Police confirmed that the alleged red light runner remained at the scene and is working to determine whether she was impaired at the time of the crash.

Officers shut down the intersection for several hours and advised drivers to use 51st or 67th Avenues to go north or south and Cactus Road or Northern Avenue to go east and west.

Police have not released the victim’s identity at this time.
