News: 1 injured after sleeping, crashing on I-10 in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – A man went to the hospital after falling asleep and causing a crash on the interstate in west Phoenix early Friday morning, reports Arizona’s Family 3 TV.

Police say the incident happened around 3:30 am. on the eastbound side of I-10 near the exit for 67th Street.

The investigation indicates that a driver fell asleep in his vehicle along I-10 with his car blocking the exit for 67th Street. Upon waking, the driver reversed across 1-10 and collided with the center wall of the interstate. An eastbound pickup truck then crashed into the car.

Medics transported the first driver to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries in the collision.

A full investigation is underway to determine if impairment played a part in the incident.
