MESA, AZ – According to AZ Family, a woman lost her life in an eight-vehicle collision at E Southern Ave and S Stapley Dr on Wednesday.
A male driver was speeding on E Southern Ave when he struck a curb, collided with a Chevy pickup truck driver, and rear-ended a Mazda sedan driven by Karen Maldonado, 23. The collision pushed Maldonado’s car into the intersection, where she and the driver that crashed into her collided with five other vehicles. One of the vehicles involved in the collision was a Mesa Public Schools school bus.
Rescue crews pronounced Maldonado dead at the scene and transported the Chevy pickup truck driver to an area hospital.
Authorities do not believe the driver who caused the crash was impaired, but charges are pending.
