LAVEEN VILLAGE, AZ – One person was dead, and another was hospitalized following a pickup truck-pedestrian crash in Laveen Village on Wednesday.
The collision happened before 8 a.m. on 35th Avenue and Melody Drive. Phoenix police told AZFamily that they suspect the pickup truck driver was speeding, which caused them to lose control of their truck and plow into a tree.
The aforementioned pickup truck overturned and struck a 51-year-old female pedestrian.
EMS crews rushed the pickup truck driver and the pedestrian to a hospital. There, the woman, later identified as Melissa Pennington, died from her injuries.
The pickup truck driver is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation remains in the preliminary stages, so it’s unclear if and when official charges will be filed.
