PHOENIX, AZ – One child was killed, and another was sent to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash in Phoenix on Tuesday.
According to 12News, the collision happened on Interstate 10 East along 43rd Avenue. A driver of a Dodge Challenger crashed into the back of a Toyota Corolla that slowed down for traffic.
The impact pushed the Toyota forward, which struck a third vehicle. Subsequently, a 4-year-old child inside the Toyota died, while another child — a 2-year-old — suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The children’s mother was uninjured.
Officials confirmed that the Dodge driver sustained minor injuries.
Authorities temporarily shut down the eastbound lanes along 43rd Avenue before reopening the area at 3 p.m.
