News: Woman killed in Peoria hit-and-run on SR 101

PEORIA, AZ – A 33-year-old woman died Monday morning when a vehicle struck her along the highway in Peoria before fleeing the scene, reports 12 News.

The incident happened on the southbound off-ramp for State Road 101 at West Peoria Avenue, which is just west of downtown Peoria.

The investigation thus far indicates that the woman was struck after exiting her stalled car on the highway. Police say they found the victim deceased on the ground next to her Mitsubishi Gallant, which she had parked in the center of the off-ramp with the hazard lights activated.

Authorities identified the victim as Nicole Cortez. They are looking for a 2010 to 2014 Dodge Challenger in connection with the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
