News: Troopers investigate fatal crash involving ambulance on I-10 near Casa Grande

PINAL COUNTY, AZ – According to CBS 5, the Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly wreck involving an ambulance, which happened on I-10 near AZ 387 on Sunday.

A male was driving an American Medical Response ambulance and was traveling east on I-10 with a female passenger when he strayed off the road, causing the vehicle to roll over. The ambulance, which was not transporting a patient at the time, ultimately landed on its wheels.

A man and a woman from a second and third vehicle pulled over to help the ambulance driver and his coworker. At one point, a fourth vehicle slammed into the ambulance and hit the two people who pulled over to help.

Rescue crews pronounced the male passerby at the scene. They transported the male ambulance driver, his female coworker, the driver who hit the ambulance, and the female passerby to an area hospital.

Troopers believe the driver who hit the ambulance may have been impaired.
