News: Suspected impaired driver fatally collides with another vehicle in west Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – One woman died, and two other people were hurt when an alleged drunk driver collided with their vehicle at I-10 EB Service Rd and N 51st Ave on Tuesday, according to CBS 5.

Dre Lewis, 22, was heading north on N 51st Ave when he ran a red light and hit a vehicle occupied by three people heading east on the I-10 access road around 9:45 p.m. The impact caused a boy from the car that was hit to be ejected from the vehicle.

Rescue crews transported Lewis and the three occupants of the second vehicle to an area hospital. Lewis was admitted with minor injuries. A passenger from the second vehicle, Debbie Alvarez, 38, died at the hospital. The boy remains in the hospital.

Authorities arrested Lewis once he was released from the hospital and charged him with extreme DUI and manslaughter. Lewis’s BAC was over 0.20.
