PHOENIX, AZ – The Phoenix Police Department suspects speeding was a factor that led to a fatal crash on Indian School Road Sunday, AZ Family reports.
Preliminary details show that one driver was speeding when they crashed into another driver at the intersection of North 57th Avenue & West Indian School Road. Police said the second driver, a 44-year-old woman, was trying to come onto Indian School Road when she was struck.
One of the vehicles crashed into a street sign and damaged a Jeep and an SUV’s front and rear-end bumpers. The force of the collision also caused groceries to spill from one of the vehicles.
EMS and fire crews rushed to the scene and had to extricate the three involved individuals from their vehicles. One of the occupants, the 44-year-old woman, died from her injuries at the scene. Two of the other individuals, another woman and a man, were taken to a hospital. There, the man died from his injuries.
The deceased individuals have since been identified as Phyllis and Antonio Wauneka.
The surviving driver was not suspected of being impaired. No charges were announced at this time.
Authorities shut down Indian School Road between 59th Avenue and 55th Avenue for the clean-up process. All lanes have reopened since.
