PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix police suspect speeding was a contributing factor in a fatal single-vehicle collision that happened along the Phoenix Art Museum on Tuesday.
Police told AZ Family that a 25-year-old man was traveling at a high rate on westbound McDowell Road when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a curb, and crashed into a large palm tree near Central Avenue.
Phoenix fire crews, who were also called to the scene, pronounced the male driver dead at the scene. Officials have since identified him as Angel Banuelos.
Banuelos was the sole occupant of his vehicle.
Law enforcement shut down McDowell Road from Central Avenue to 3rd Street to allow for crews to clean up the debris from the crash.
All lanes have reopened since.
