NEW RIVER, AZ – According to AZFamily, a man has been sentenced for a crash that took the lives of three Grand Canyon University students on I-17 on Oct. 10, 2022.
Vincent Ian Acosta was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-17 when he collided with a commercial vehicle and two cars. One of the cars was occupied by the three students, Abriauna Hoffman, 18, Magdalyn Ogden, 18, and Hunter Balberdi, 19.
First responders pronounced two of the students dead at the scene. The third died at the hospital.
Acosta’s BAC at the time of the crash was 0.129.
Acosta was sentenced to 22 years in prison for each charge. The sentences are to be served simultaneously. His license is revoked.
