News: Man pleads guilty for deadly wrong-way crash on I-17 in New River

New River, AZ – A man pleaded guilty to causing a wrong-way crash that took the lives of three Grand Canyon University Students on I-17 NB near Table Mesa Rd on Oct. 10, 2022, according to 12 News.

Vincent Ian Acosta, 27, was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-17 when he slammed into multiple vehicles around 3:51 a.m.

A blood test taken from Acosta at the time of his arrest indicated he may have been under the influence when he wrecked.

Acosta pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder on Aug. 14.

The three students killed were Magdalyn Ogden, 18, Abriauna Hofman, 18, and Elaine Hunter Balverdi, 19.

Acosta will be sentenced on Sept. 27.
