PEORIA, AZ – Nine people had to go to the hospital as a result of a head-on crash between a UTV and a pickup truck on Sunday, according to Fox10Phoenix.
The crash happened in the area of Castle Hot Springs Road and French Creek Road. Peoria Police said the UTV operator, who they believe was a teenager, was traveling north, while the pickup truck driver was going south. Police said dust winds could reduce both drivers’ visibility, which led them to collide head-on.
Police said two people were inside the pickup truck. Police did not specify how many people were riding the UTV, but said one passenger was sitting on another passenger’s lap and was not wearing a safety device.
Police said all the involved occupants were between 16 and 48 years old. Three of them were airlifted to a hospital, and the rest were taken to the emergency room by ground.
Four people were in critical condition, two in serious condition, and two others appeared to be in stable condition, as they were only left with minor injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
