The collision occurred at Indian School Road and Central Avenue around 5 am. A man driving a pickup truck failed to stop for a red light, crashing into the passing light rail and injuring at least six occupants.

The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Mario Dircio-Castrejon, was killed. Three light rail passengers were hospitalized.
