News: Authorities arrest semi-truck driver allegedly responsible for deadly crash in Mesa

MESA, AZ – According to AZ Family, authorities arrested a man who crashed into a home near US 60 and Crimson Rd and killed one person on Dec. 30, 2020

Daniel Tobon, 58, was driving a semi-truck when he ran a red light at eastbound US 60 and Crimson Rd around 7 p.m. and slammed into the home.

Ten people were inside the home at the time of the crash. Rescue crews transported Tobon and four others to area hospitals, where Todd Weber, 50, died.

Police believed Tobon may have suffered a medical emergency during the crash.

In March 2021 the FMCSA said Tobon faked his medical examinaiton in September 2020.

The Maricopa County grand jury indicted Tobon on 15 felony counts on July 12, 2021. This included manslaughter, endangerment, aggravated assault, and more.

Authorities arrested Tobon after he was extradited from California on Monday.
