News: Authorities arrest man for deadly crash near Knoell Royal Oaks

PHOENIX, AZ – According to AZ Family, police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a crash that killed three people on I-17 near Thunderbird Rd on July 3.

Police allege that Angel Lopez Garcia, 22, was drinking and speeding in a Camaro when he ran a red light and collided with a Traverse around 11 p.m. The collision sent the Traverse crashing into a Subaru that was stopped at the light.

The crash caused the Camaro to catch on fire. Rescue crews extricated Garcia’s passenger, Esteban Espinoza Lopez, 21, from the vehicle and transported him to a hospital, where he died.

Crews also transported the Traverse driver, Majid Al Juhaishi, 54, to an area hospital, where they died. Juhaishi’s passenger, Tessa Jeffrey, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

First responders transported the two occupants of the Subaru to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. They have been released from the hospital.

Officials have not released Garcia’s blood alcohol level at the time of the incident.
