News: 2 dead following multi-vehicle crash on I-10 near Chandler

CHANDLER, AZ – Two people died following a multi-vehicle collision on I-10 WB near E Riggs Rd on Wednesday, according to 12 News.

Traffic had slowed down on I-10. José Guillermo, 53, was driving a box truck and could not slow down in time. Around 12:10 p.m., he collided with a pickup truck driven by Efrain Gutiérrez-Ávila and three other vehicles.

The collision sent the box truck and the pickup truck into the median. Both vehicles then caught on fire.

Guillermo and Gutiérrez-Ávila died in the wreck. First responders transported two of the other three drivers involved in the collision to area hospitals. The third driver was not hurt.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
