News: 1 dead following wreck near Laurelwood

PHOENIX, AZ – According to CBS 5, a person died following a two-vehicle collision near 83rd Ave and Thomas Rd on Tuesday.

The drivers of a Chevy Spark and a Lexus sedan collided around 10:45 p.m. The collision sent both vehicles crashing into a power box and a light pole. The Lexus was split in two.

The passenger of the Lexus died in the crash. Rescue crews transported the Lexus driver to an area hospital in critical condition.

Following the collision, the Spark driver remained at the scene. They were not hurt in the incident.

Authorities believe the wreck was caused by one of the drivers running a red light.
