News: 1 dead following hit-and-run crash on I-17 in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – According to AZ Family, a woman died in a hit-and-run collision on I-17 near Bethany Home Rd on Wednesday.

A teenager was driving a GMC truck north on I-17 when they struck the rear of a Honda around 9:30 p.m. The impact caused the Honda driver to lose control of their vehicle and collide with two other vehicles. One driver then crashed into a concrete wall.

A passenger inside the Honda, Yolanda Cruz, 88, died in the wreck. It is unclear if anyone else was hurt in the crash.

Following the collision, the teen GMC driver fled the area. Authorities eventually located them. Officials have not provided additional details concerning the teen.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
